PERFORMANCES
"On Anxiety"
The keyboard and phone line are extensions of our lusts. Pens and papers give birth to secrets. In this office, everything becomes so extraordinarily empty even words fail. And without words and symbols, our imagination dies. In the mean time, a new game is being played, a game of metaphors. Perhaps no one can escape this path except through the magic of imagination.

Hope2 - a work in progress showcase
Choreographer Joyce S. Lim thinks the distance between performers and audience has always been a something to her. “Many times when we watch dance, we look at the production or at the technical skills of the performers until we forgot to look at the dancers as people”. That’s why she eliminated the gap by having the performers sitting in with the audience so that they can look into their eyes. Intimacy is not specifically in terms physical only, rather is the closeness one can get towards another’s soul.
Hope is something everyone needs. Seeing the world troubled by disasters and chaos, it is important that in all these darkness and despair something within exist to keep us go on. This performance is about the different hopes and dreams that people of different ages have, from a child to that of a senior person. Through the eye of Joyce and movements of performers, HOPE, whether full of it or none at all, becomes the message that will go through the audience’s veins.
Performance available only ONE DAY, on July 3th (Saturday) 2010 at 2.00pm and 7.30pm, at the Bodhi Heart Sanctuary, Penang. Entry is by donation (minimum RM10).

CLASSES
Tribal Style Belly Dance
‘Display of feminine power: A formal course’
Level 1
Tuesday 7:30-9pm
Aug 3,10,17,24
Sep 7,14,21,28
Oct 5,12
This comprehensive course will jump start the student into the mysteries of Tribal Belly Dance of North Africa.
The student will learn the most important dance moves in order to lead in a circle. The beauty of this form of dance is it empowers the student to awaken their feminine energy in a community format. Hand, eye and body signals are used without words to improvise together as one. Nanci will take the student on a journey of rhythms based on Jamila Salimpour’s research of zill patterns. The use of zills (Turkish term for finger cymbals) as a musical accompaniment to dance is documented to be 1500 years old. Each dance step of North Africa has it’s own zill pattern that goes along with it.
Through Nanci’s own personal pre-historical research she has theorized that the tribal dances hold the knowledge of our ancestors. She feels this knowledge has been hidden from the public eye for a few thousand years. She also feels that this knowledge holds the key for building stronger communities that make the human environment a better place to live.
Course fee 425RM (Includes zills)
About the teacher:
Nanci is American-born Irish hailing from San Francisco. She is a fierce woman who expresses her feminine power through a dance form called Tribal Style Belly Dance. This dance form is born from the non-ruling class of Nomadic Tribes of North Africa, India and Central Asia. She mostly taught herself how to dance, but her dance lineage can be traced to Jamila Salimpour’s student Rossah.
Nanci Traynor, a semi-nomad herself, encourages people to be self-sufficient, empowered and non-judgmental of others. She has proven that the human mind can manifest anything as long as the intention is clear, positive and benefits the surrounding life force. She spent a year in isolation on a cliff in Southern India. During her self study under the stars the universe was mapped out and translated through movement. Her greatest performance achievement to date was an invitation to perform in Lahore, Pakistan. She was awarded best performance and costume.
