Batu Dance Theatre will release BETA 2011, a new generation dance showcase in this coming Dec!
BETA is a software development phase which generally begins when the software is presented to test the market response, also to serve as a preview of software for future improvement.
This coming December, two young dancers & choreographer,s I-Hsiang Wang (Taiwan) & Kyson Teo (Malaysia) are just like the BETA version, open for you to try, through their sincere body movements & creative ideas.

As part of the launching program of the new Performing Arts Centre of Penang (penangpac) MyDance Alliance is proud to present a special Dancebox season:

This season of Dancebox features works choreographed or adapted by emerging Malaysian female choreographers:
- Two works, choreographed by Foong Siew Ching and Mak Foong Ming, from the recent Kua Bu program of emerging choreographers, produced by Kwang Tung Dance Company;
- A solo by award-winning young dancer Alisya Razman Adam;
- A new duet work by Suhaili Micheline Ahmad Kamil;
- A classic butoh solo interpreted by Yeow Lai Chee from Nyoba Kan (image, above left, by Wyman Wong).
Dancebox is a regular performance platform produced by MyDance Alliance, in partnership with The Actors Studio.

Updates from Sutra Dance Theatre
As the year gracefully comes to a close, Sutra Dance Theatre embarks on two final visits to India. It takes Odissi to its place of origin - Orissa - to Konark Festival on the 3rd December, as well as Angul on the 8th December. We will conclude the year performing on the 24th and 25th December at the much awaited International Odissi Festival, with exciting performances featuring Ramli Ibrahim and his Sutra dancers, both in solo and group compositions.
Sutra Dance Theatre artistic director Ramli Ibrahim also received the Ram Gopal Award for Best Male Dancer at the AttenDance Annual Awards 2011, presented on 10 December in Bangalore.

12 Hours Intensive Dance Workshop
The workshop will introduce the quintessential techniques of modern dance and taichii-daoyin. Students will explore and discover the wide possibilities of their dance vocabulary through the improvisation experiment of their body parts. At the end of the workshop, there will be an informal showing to the public for students to showcase the outcome of the 3 days' intensive workshop. Students will learn compositional technique, as well as acquire the basic knowledge of stage and space.
The workshop will be run by Jack Kek Siou Kee. Since his school age, Jack has been active in the performing arts. In 2002, Jack was awarded full scholarship to further study Chinese dance in Hong Kong. After he graduated from the Hong Kong Academy of Performing Arts with a bachelor degree, Jack was offered a full-time dance contract for Cloud Gate 2 in Taiwan. His solo work Dream’n Butterfly was awarded the BOH Cameronian Arts Award for the best choreographer (full-length) and the best dancer in 2006. After he performed in Wu Kuo Chu’s choreography Oculus in 2007, he was inspired to further explore the form of dance theatre which had a great impact on his latest full-length choreography It Ain’t flower in 2010.

Scholarships for Choreographers to American Dance Festival (ADF) Henan, China, 6-24 August 2012

Henan Normal University is offering 8 scholarships to members of the World Dance Alliance Asia-Pacific (WDA AP). MyDance Alliance is the WDA AP chapter in Malaysia. All members and future members of MyDance Alliance are eligible for this scholarship.
Scholarship winners will learn from ADF instructors, and have an opportunity to share their choreography with Chinese audiences, and to understand what is latest in modern dance development in China.
The “International Choreographer” scholarship:
Total 8 scholarships to cover tuition fee for the entire ADF Henan. Value of each scholarship is around RMB4500 or USD 700.
What it covers: free access to all master classes (3 classes per day, 1.5 hours per class for 13 calendar days) all performances, all lectures and forums, during ADF Henan
What it does NOT cover: travel expenses from your country to China, China visa application (if applicable), accommodation (Henan University will arrange for scholarship winners to stay in a nearby hotel at RMB150/USD23 per night), meals, insurance
Selection Criteria:
Applicants should be independent choreographers or dancers graduated from recognized professional institutes, or master level graduates or students in modern dance. Scholarship awardees should present a 5 to 7-min piece by the closing of ADF Henan. The piece can be a new or existing work. It needs not be a solo piece but the scholarship awardee will be responsible for other dancers’ travel and accommodation expenses. The performance will fall on the final week of ADF Henan as part of the Young Artists Showcase programme.
How to apply:
Interested parties in Malaysia should send a full resume detailing academic and professionalexperiences, a 300-word document explaining why they want to apply for this scholarship and what they expect to get out of it, plus a Youtube link to a video showing their dance (need not be a public performance, can be a studio endeavour showing technique and style) to MyDance Alliance, contact@mydancealliance.org. The MyDance Alliance committee will make recommendations to the panel in Hong Kong for selection to the scholarships.

Call for Applications for Arts Network Asia (ANA) Project Grants 2012
Arts Network Asia (ANA) would like to invite artists, cultural workers, arts activists, and arts communities in Asia to apply for the ANA 2012 Grants scheme.
ANA supports projects that are carried out by Asian artists, residing in Asia; projects that are to be initiated and implemented in Asia, engaging with Asian artists and arts communities; and projects that maintain a focus on Southeast Asia. ANA will consider projects that encourage provocative exchanges and collaborations between and among various cultures and communities within Asia. ANA is interested in the contemporary experience of Asia including its relationship with traditions. Hence, this includes urban expressions, contemporary arts, contemporary arts and its relationship to traditional arts as well as the encounters between traditional arts. ANA promotes collaborations and exchanges with diverse cultures across borders in Asia and would look into the potential of local-regional-global complementation.
ANA grants range from US$1,500 – 7,500 for each project, and is open to supporting existing or new projects. Follow-up proposals on past projects supported by ANA can also be accommodated.
