1. About the MyDance Newsletter
You may have noticed things have been a little quiet from the MyDance e-newsletter! That's because we have decided to partner with AsiaDanceChannel , in order to better conserve our resources and avoid doubling the work load.
AsiaDanceChannel.com will send you a regular newsletter by email to update you on all the general dance news and events from Malaysia and the surrounding region. The MyDance e-newsletter will only be used to distribute information specifically related to MyDance Alliance and World Dance Alliance events and programs.
If you have any questions about this change, or wish to remove your name from either list, please contact the MyDance Secretary Bilqis Hijjas on bhijjas@gmail.com .
2. Dance Festival 2011 & Dance Awards -- Want to Help?
A recent meeting of members of the dance community decided that Malaysia really needs a dance festival, and what better way to do it than to resurrect the MyDance Festival tradition!
With the help of AsiaDanceChannel.com , MyDance Alliance is hoping to hold a festival in September 2011. The festival will take place in a range of venues across Kuala Lumpur, and will include:
- Outreach workshops
- Invited productions with representatives from all over Malaysia
- An awards structure to recognise achievements in process and performance.
The next meeting of the Steering Committee to help plan the basis of the 2011 festival will take place at the end of March 2010.
The Steering Committee will be responsible for:
- Deciding how to form the curatorial and ad hoc management committees.
- Holding initial discussions with a professional events manager.
- Establishing potential returns for sponsors, in terms of exposure, etc.
The Steering Committee is open to all interested individuals. If you are interested to be on the Steering Committee, please email your details to the MyDance Secretary Bilqis Hijjas on bhijjas@gmail.com .
To view the minutes from the meeting, with more information about the proposed awards and the festival, please go to the MyDance Alliance website http://www.mydancealliance.org .
3. International Dance Day
International Dance Day takes place every year on the 29th of April, and every year a message from a well-known dance personality is circulated throughout the world. The intention of International Dance Day and the Message is to bring all dance together on this day, to celebrate this art form and revel in its universality, to cross all political, cultural and ethnic barriers and bring people together in peace and friendship with a common language - Dance. This year the message comes from Argentinian principal ballet dancer Julio Bocca. To view the International Dance Day Message, and find out how to celebrate International Dance Day, go to the ITI/UNESCO website: http://www.iti-worldwide.org/
IDD was founded in 1982 by the International Dance Committee of the International Theatre Institute (ITI/UNESCO). In 1995, in an effort to unite dance, the International Dance Committee entered into a collaborative effort for the celebration of International Dance Day with World Dance Alliance as their only official partner. MyDance Alliance is the Malaysian chapter of World Dance Alliance.
Recently the International Dance Council (CID) under the leadership of Mr Alkis Raftis, a non-danceperson, has taken the liberty to proclaim that IDD was initiated by the CID, which of course is false. Since then, WDA has distance itself from CID until the CID leadership tussle is settled by the courts in Paris. Please be informed that MyDance Alliance and the World Dance Alliance do not support the position of CID.
